April 17, 2009 - RECENT HAYS COUNTY BURGLARIES

In the past few weeks, several  residents in subdivisions in  western Hays County have reported residential burglaries.  I n one instance, on Wednesday, 4-08-09, at around 3pm, a suspicious vehicle was seen in the Falcon Wood Subdivision which has a very active neighborhood group.  The vehicle, a black Accura MDX with Texas plates was seen near the location of a burglary on Pico Court and it left the area occupied by a white female in her 20s or 30s and a juvenile male. Residents gave chase but the vehicle fled. They furnished a  plate number to arriving deputies.

Hays County Sheriff’s Office Detectives made contact with the registered owner of the Suv, who resides in southwest Austin, and were told the plates to her Accura MDX had been recently stolen.

Late Tuesday evening, 4-14-09, Round Rock police officers were involved in a vehicle  and foot pursuit and arrested a female driving a black Accura MDX.  Officers  found that the vehicle was stolen as were the plates on the vehicle. The plates were the ones reported in the Falcon Wood burglary. They contacted the registered owner of the plates who contacted the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.

Hays County Detectives traveled to Williamson County and found numerous stolen items in the stolen vehicle.  They then traveled to the suspects mothers home in south Austin and found more stolen items and then executed a search warrant at another south Austin residence where they located more stolen items and a male juvenile who has been charged with two counts of burglary and is in custody at Hays County Juvenile Detention.

The female driver remains in Williamson County custody, pending charges being filed in Hays County. Detectives have identified property from ten or more Hays County burglaries.

January 12 , 2009 - Scam

A work-at-home scam that purports to have a San Marcos address has received an “F” from the Better Business Bureau, which has received 73 complaints about the operation in a 36-month period. I t comes across the Internet for a work-at-home rebate processing program. The ad featured a video of a woman who said her name was Angel Stevens. Angel claims that she had struggled for years to make ends meet before finding a fool-proof method for generating income from home,  and wanted to share this method with others.

There is a fee of $197 for a 7-week training kit that is to certify you as an Affiliate Rebate Processor, which has a 90 day money back guarantee. When you receive the training materials it has nothing to do with processing rebates, you have to try and sell stuff. Complaints being  made to the  BBB, consumers are finding out the company does not honor their 90 day money back guarantee.

Look closely at offers that promises or guarantees income from work-at-home programs. It could be a warning if you have to buy something to start a program.
